Keeping small businesses moving with Vero Roadside Assistance for commercial vehicles
17 August 2026
How AA Roadservice technician Mike helps light commercial vehicle owners get back on the road when downtime is not an option.
For many businesses, a light commercial vehicle is more than transport. It can be a mobile workshop, delivery channel, stockroom and essential part of a working day.
When that vehicle is off the road, even a simple flat battery or damaged tyre can quickly become lost time, missed appointments and added pressure.
That is why Commercial Vero Roadside Assistance matters. Eligible clients with light commercial vehicles can access AA Roadservice support when they need help on the road, giving brokers a practical benefit to discuss with business clients: support that can help minimise disruption, reduce stress and get people moving again sooner.
Mike, AA Service Officer
Meet Mike, AA Service Officer
Mike has been with AA Roadservice for just over three years, after nearly four decades working in automotive workshops, including running his own. The role lets him keep using his technical experience while helping people when they are stranded, stressed or running late.
“This is the best job I’ve ever had,” Mike says. “I love being on the road, helping people.”
Everyday problems can have a big business impact
For Mike, the most common callouts are familiar ones: flat batteries, flat tyres, keys locked in vehicles and vehicles stuck on soft ground during wet winter months. They might sound routine, but for a tradesperson, courier, installer or mobile small business owner, a van or ute often holds the tools, parts, stock and equipment needed to do the job.
“They can’t just jump in another car and drive somewhere,” Mike says. “Often all their gear and equipment is in a van or a ute. It’s not an easy job to move all that gear to another vehicle.”
That is why getting a client moving quickly can matter so much. A delayed plumber, builder or courier can mean an end client waiting, a job postponed, or another business interruption further down the line.
Roadside problem-solving in action
One recent callout showed the value of experienced roadside support. Mike was called to help a builder with a van that had a damaged tyre. The van had been fitted out with plywood flooring and large drawers for tools and equipment, but the access point for lowering the spare wheel was hidden under the cabinetry.
“The spare wheel was there, but we couldn’t get it out,” Mike says.
Rather than leave the vehicle waiting for a tow, Mike removed the damaged wheel, safely supported the van, drove the client and tyre to a tyre shop, waited while a new tyre was fitted, then returned and fitted it to the van. Within about an hour, the builder was back on the road.
Without that roadside problem-solving, the client may have needed to wait for a tow truck, unload or dismantle cabinetry, and lose far more of his working day.
Most clients get moving again
Mike says the aim is always to assess the issue, work out the safest and fastest option, and get the client moving where possible. In his experience, around 90 percent of jobs are resolved without the client needing a tow.
That can be powerful reassurance for business clients. Roadside assistance is not just about sending help; it is about sending someone with the experience, equipment and judgement to solve the problem at the vehicle where possible.
Why it matters for brokers
For brokers and advisers talking with small business clients, Vero Roadside Assistance is a tangible example of insurance value beyond the claims moment. It supports the reality of how many clients work: on the road, to a schedule, with their vehicle central to earning an income.
As Mike puts it, AA Roadservice plays a critical role for small businesses because it is available 24/7 and helps minimise vehicle downtime. For light commercial vehicle owners covered by Vero, that support can help keep business moving when the unexpected happens.
A human benefit, delivered roadside
Mike’s favourite part of the job is simple: people are relieved when he arrives, and relieved again when they can get going.
“You’re helping them and doing your best to get them back on the road as quick as you can,” he says. “They’re really grateful.”
That is the heart of the Commercial Vero Roadside Assistance story for brokers: practical help, delivered by experienced AA Roadservice technicians, at the moment a client needs it most.
