We are on track and will continue to work closely with our customers, intermediary partners, community and government as we progress the repair and rebuild of Canterbury.
To date, Vero has received earthquake claims relating to 7,129 domestic homes – we have resolved 92% of these. Today there remain 431 over-cap (claims over $100,000) domestic properties to be resolved. This number includes shared properties and 174 driveways.
Overall, this means that Vero has now settled and resolved 80% of all over-cap residential properties and 96% of minor property repairs (EQC-excluded repairs), which puts us ahead of the pack.
We also received 2,619 commercial property damage claims and, of these, 91% have been resolved. There are 240 remaining that we are still working on.
To help get our customers back on their feet as quickly as possible we created a dedicated Earthquake Response team, focused on helping our broker partners and affected customers through these events.
All our earthquake customers in Canterbury have a personal case manager as their one point of contact. The team is led by Jimmy Higgins, who has substantial experience in managing natural disaster claims in Australia and New Zealand.
We have been instrumental in the negotiation and settlement of a number of major earthquake-related claims where we were the lead insurer, like the Ministry of Education and Housing New Zealand settlements, and New Zealand's largest earthquake claim settlement for the University of Canterbury.
In 2015 we released a comprehensive, independent report by Deloitte Access Economics and commissioned by Vero, entitled "Four years on: Insurance and the Canterbury Earthquakes”. Read more about the report including key findings here or you can download the full report below.
