Cove launches home insurance, encouraging Kiwis to compare before they renew

16 October 2026

Digital insurance brand Cove has launched home and contents insurance underwritten by Vero Insurance New Zealand Limited, part of Suncorp New Zealand. The move takes the Auckland company beyond the car and pet cover it has sold online since 2018. The partnership pairs one of New Zealand's leading general insurers with a direct-to-consumer brand built entirely around online sales and self-service.

Both home and contents policies are quoted, bought and managed entirely online, and home insurance includes natural disaster cover.

"Home insurance is a significant new step for Cove, and we wanted a partner with the balance sheet strength and experience to support us at scale. Vero brings that, while Cove brings the technology, innovation and customer experience that have driven our growth to date. Together, we think that makes for a really strong proposition for New Zealand homeowners," said Andy Coon, CEO of Cove.

"We run a lean business and pass the savings on. We can’t control inflation or the impact of climate change, but we can make sure our own costs aren’t adding unnecessarily to the bill."

Cove has tripled its customer base since 2024, and holds an average rating of 4.7 out of 5 across nearly 3,000 reviews. Home and contents follow the same self-service approach that has driven that growth. A quote can take as little as two minutes, and customers can update their own policy at any hour without phoning anyone.

“Home and contents is the cover our customers asked about most, and it’s the natural next step for us,” Coon said. “We think we’ve built a really strong, competitively priced offer, and we’d encourage homeowners to come and see how Cove stacks up with their renewal.”

Consumer NZ has identified limited ability to shop around as one of the weaknesses in New Zealand's home insurance market.

“We’re pleased to be partnering with Cove to bring Vero’s home and contents expertise to their customers. By combining Cove’s digital-first customer experience with Vero’s underwriting capability, we can help ensure their customers have access to quality cover that reflects their needs” says Jane Brewer, Executive General Manager, Consumer at Vero Insurance.

Cove was founded in Auckland in 2017 and launched car insurance in 2018 and pet insurance in 2022. Home and contents insurance are available now at coveinsurance.co.nz.
