2 options to cover your contents

Maxi Cover

Most customers choose our Maxi Contents policy, because it offers replacement (or ‘as new’) cover on almost all of your contents, plus a range of additional benefits, up to the sum insured that you choose.

But there are a few items where your insurance is capped unless you’ve specified them, and older or lower value contents (like clothing, books or electronics that are more than three years old) will be covered for indemnity (or ‘as is’) cover.

Flexi Cover

Our Flexi cover is a more affordable, and flexible, option. Rather than providing cover for any accidental loss or damage, your contents are covered while in your home for damage caused by specific events including natural disasters, fire, theft or flooding.

If you have our flexi policy, most of your contents are covered for indemnity (or ‘as is’) value. You can choose to add optional cover for general accidental damage, cover anywhere in New Zealand or replacement value if you need it.

How we’ll settle your claim

‘As new’ repair and replacement:
If your contents are damaged or stolen in a way that is covered by your policy, in most cases we’ll pay to repair or replace them to a condition as close as possible to when they were new, up to the limit of your sum insured or other policy limits.

Optional on our Flexi policy at additional cost.

‘As is’ repair or replacement:
If your contents are damaged or stolen in a way that is covered by your policy, we’ll pay you enough to repair or replace the contents to their condition immediately before loss, taking into account any wear or tear.

Cover for sudden, accidental damage or loss

We’ll cover your contents for sudden, accidental damage or loss.

Flexi covers specific events only. This is cover for damage to contents caused by 12 specific causes, including theft, storm, fire and malicious damage or vandalism.

Sudden, accidental damage or loss is optional on our Flexi policy at additional cost.

Accidental damage, loss or theft anywhere in New Zealand

We'll cover your contents that are lost, damaged or stolen anywhere in New Zealand.

Flexi covers contents at your home only.

Cover anywhere in New Zealand is optional on our Flexi policy at additional cost.

Natural disaster damage

If your contents suffer from natural disaster damage which is more than the EQCover limit, we’ll pay the difference, up to the sum insured, less any applicable excesses.

Liability for damage to property

If you damage someone else’s property, we’ll cover your legal liability to pay for repairs or replacement. Some conditions apply.

Liability for injury

If you accidentally injure someone else in New Zealand and you are charged with an offence, we’ll cover your legal liability to pay court-ordered damages or reparations. Some conditions apply.

Alternative accommodation if you’re a tenant

If the home you live in is uninhabitable due to loss or damage covered by your policy, we’ll pay reasonable additional costs for temporary accommodation (including for your pets).

If your home is uninhabitable due to loss or damage covered by your policy, we’ll pay reasonable costs for temporary accommodation (including for your pets).

One event – one excess

If one event means you need to make a claim on more than one of your Vero car, house and contents policies at the same time, you’ll only need to pay one excess.

Jewellery

We’ll pay to repair or replace unspecified items of jewellery up to $3000 per item or $15,000 in total.  If you have jewellery or collections worth more than these limits, you’ll need to add them separately to your policy for an extra premium. 

Photographic equipment

Individual items of photographic, digital and video camera equipment will be covered up to $3,000. If you have equipment worth more than these limits, you’ll need to add them separately to your policy for an extra premium.

Bicycles

We’ll pay up to $3,000 per item to repair or replace bicycles. If you have bicycles worth more than this, you’ll need to add them separately to your policy for an extra premium. If your bicycle is more than 3 years old, we would only pay the indemnity value, meaning enough to repair or replace it to its condition immediately before the damage occurred, taking into account wear and tear.

Water-based recreational items

Individual canoes, kayaks, surf boards, surf skis, kite surfers, paddle boards, and windsurfers will be covered up to $3,000. If your canoes, kayaks, surf boards, surf skis, kite surfers, paddle boards, or windsurfers are worth more than this, you’ll need to add them separately to your policy for an extra premium.

Boats up to $3,000

Any boat that has a market value of less than $3,000 will be covered. If your boat is worth more, let us know – you’ll need a specialised policy.

Coins, cards or stamps

We’ll pay to repair or replace unspecified coins, cards or stamps up to $1,000 per item or $3,000 in total.  If you have items or collections worth more than these limits, you’ll need to add them separately to your policy for an extra premium.

Contents in transit while you’re moving house

Cover for theft from a securely locked vehicle, fire, collision or overturning of a vehicle while you are moving your contents to a new house. 

Contents in secure storage facilities

We'll cover your contents for up to 90 days while they are in a secure storage facility for their indemnity value, meaning we would pay enough to repair or replace it to its condition immediately before the damage occurred, taking into account wear and tear.

Keys and locks

We’ll cover the replacement of your keys or locks if the keys are stolen, lost, or illegally duplicated.

Gifts

We'll cover wedding, Christmas or other special occasion gifts temporarily at your home that belong to someone else.

Drones

At the moment, our domestic contents policies don’t cover drones.
